Too Much Time on His Hands

Have you ever wondered just what kind of damage a 2-year old could do with too much unsupervised time on his hands?  Let me clarify…this 2-year old is actually on the cusp of graduating into his 3rd year, a full-fledged toddler, and he is making every day count. Jack has made it his life’s purpose to exhaust me to the point of no return.  I find myself caught between applauding his inventiveness and stopping myself from sticking him inside a bubble with an automatic feeder and air holes.  His creativity inspires me and then proceeds to take the wind from my sails.  Here’s why.

Jack's Bathroom Mess

Yes.  That is two bottle’s worth of  baby powder spread around on my bathroom floor.  At least he had the fortitude to move my bathroom rug aside.  My guess is it was hindering his progress somehow.  Jack just isn’t that thoughtful.

Oh, and yes.  There’s some freshly dispensed mousse mixed in with baby powder on my mirror.  Lovely.  Did you know that when you mix baby powder and mousse it creates a glue-like substance?  A sticky glue-like substance?  I certainly didn’t.

Ah…the evidence of the crime.  I’ve sent it to the crime lab for testing just in case there’s any question as to who committed this travesty.

So, as you can see, 2 (almost 3) year olds can be pretty damaging if left with too much unsupervised time on their hands.  And where was I when all of this mayhem was occurring?  Volunteering in a first grade classroom.  Where was his father?  Well…he swears that Jack did all this work in about 30 seconds flat.  Hmm.

Obviously Jack isn’t quite old enough to have very much freedom.  And, honestly, I’m not too shocked that he chose to realize his vandalistic dreams on my bathroom floor.  He’s been drawn to that place like a moth to a flame since about day one.  But, you know what really ticks me off?  That was a new can of mousse.

Love to all, Mindy
