Wow. No one saw this coming. Even those of us who have watched our share of creepy Science Fiction movies watched comfortably knowing that what was on the screen was make believe. Our lives would remain safe and secure from movie-worthy conflict and issues.
We watched the news coming out of China with a dose of trepidation but a heaping side dose of relief. It isn’t here. We’re safe. Which, in truth, translates to “phew, our uncomplicated lives will remain as such.”
Surprise! Enter Covid-19 and shelter in place.
Even the most prepared weren’t actually prepared. All of the extra food, toilet paper and stockpiled beer couldn’t prepare us for what has become the most widespread price to pay…isolation.
At first it felt like a bit of a vacation. Sweatpants all day…no more school lunches…who needs a clean kitchen? The idea of a quarantine brought equal feelings of fear and safety. Fear of what could be, but safety in keeping everyone home and away from the uncertain.
A few weeks in and then reality surfaced. Staying home had come with all sorts of unforeseen implications. Isolation wasn’t easy.
