As we wind down from a whirl of a 2015, having been inundated with story upon story of violence and politics, the unsung heroes of the year were buried deeper and deeper in the press. So much focus is spent on highlighting the lowlights (thank you, MEDIA) that the nuggets, the good deeds, the examples of decency get obscured amidst the crap.
It really is such a common phenomenon, no? It is stupidly easy to wrongly focus on the negative. Ninety-nine people could tell you you’re amazing and one person’s less-than-stellar appraisal is remembered, meditated, and imprinted upon the deep recesses of your psyche. For eternity. Screw the ninety-nine people who see you for who you really are. Let’s let the one tool who either had a bad day or, perhaps, has a rather prickly stick shoved up their arse dictate our self-worth. Or nah.
The same philosophy could be applied to handling the ever-growing questionable state of humanity on this planet. There are people who are inherently good. And there are people who are inherently bad. Leave them alone with their prickly arse sticks and give more attention to the positive stories. They exist. And they’re heartwarming for the soul. It may take a little digging on your part, but the effort is well worth the payback.
Here’s just a smattering of what I could find with a couple of quick Google searches. Hope you enjoy.
